When it comes to equipment for keeping chickens/ducks you can make
things as sophisticated or simple as you like. There are various
places throughout West Cork where you can obtain simple drinkers/
feeders for your chooks, or you can use things lying around the house.
I personally find hanging drinkers to be the best option as they stay
clean by staying off the ground and ensure a clean supply of water for
your birds. Aside from that I have used ice cream containers, plastic
milk jugs with a hold cut in it's side and laid length wise (this is
handy for bearded breeds as it keeps their beards dry) and huge
tupperware containers. The same for food - although ensuring your food
container is protected from the elements so the food stays dry is
vital. I put their food in their house when it's wet out - so
basically every other day.
Aside from feeding and housing there is surprisingly little
"equipment" needed. Below is my incubator which holds up to 60 chicken
eggs and that is the extent of my equipment. Oh and a good chicken
poop shovel! That's a necessity!
